This artwork is a deeply personal and socially driven piece inspired by the economic reality facing millions of Nigerians today.
Through this hyper realistic portrait of myself and the symbol representation of inflation, this work explores the tension between struggle and resilience in the face of costs and uncertain futures.
On the left, the detailed face reflects the weight of hardship — textured with emotion, and quiet strength. This is myself, captured in charcoal, representing not just one person but the collective experience of many.
The right side contrasts this with a bold red trend line, rising sharply alongside daily essentials like fuel, food, and housing,— each floating upward, tied to balloons marked with the naira symbol. This stark visual metaphor illustrates how basic needs have become increasingly out of reach for the average person.
